Five Habits to Help Overcome Self-Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs are the negative stories we tell ourselves and the conversations we have with ourselves that prevent us from being the person who we are meant to be. They are barriers that hold us back and stop us from realising our full potential. These beliefs are so ingrained that we often don’t even realise they exist in our subconscious. In many cases we don’t even know that we have them until someone points them out to us. Here are five habits that can help you burst through your limiting beliefs even if you don’t realise they exist.

Some of the most common limiting beliefs are:

I'm not talented enough to do something - run, draw, cook

I'm not smart enough to get that qualification/job

Money is difficult to earn

I'm not attractive enough

Yes some may seem frivolous but remember they are based on personal individual experience.

CALL IT OUT OR WRITE IT DOWN

Awareness of what is holding you back is the key to change. Create the habit of calling it out or writing it down. Become aware each and every day of your negative self talk. When your mind wanders down the path of negativity, call it out and/or write it down. Get yourself a journal or a copy. You will soon discover there is a pattern to your thoughts you are capturing. These beliefs are based on individual experiences we had. Understanding the pattern may lead us to understand where they came from and how you can change these train of thoughts.

GRATITUDE

Gratitude is a really good way of actually monitoring that you are maintaining your habits. If you’re grateful for your drinking water, grateful for your walk it can encourage you to keep them up.

If you are grateful for identifying these limiting beliefs than you will make your peace with the before you let them go. I am grateful for identifying that I felt xxxx and I am now on the path to yyyy

Put a positive spin on these negative thoughts - I get to change, I get to grow, I get to help people, I get to make money.

LETTING GO

I am grateful for the ability to Let Go.

Letting go is a habit that should become a daily practise. Once you have become aware of these doubts and called them out. It is time to either reshape them or let them go. This is not an overnight process. Your limiting beliefs are now a cycle of bad habits that need to be broken. Once you have identified a pattern of 3/4 you will can spin them on their head or get them out of your head.

Take 5 mins with your coffee in the morning. Think of one and only one of your limiting beliefs and let it go.

I love a letting go ritual too....if you are by the sea, lake or river. Grab one stone and let go of that limiting belief when you throw it in water. You will let go of the same belief again & again & again & again & again & again....

RESHAPE & REBUILD

Look at the pattern of negative thoughts that you have captured when you have been calling out or writing down in your journal. You may have a list of three or four. Create a new list and replace each negative belief with a positive affirmation. I recommend doing this over a few days so as not too overwhelm. If you find you cannot reshape or rebuild then continue to let the negativity go. Then “I have no money” Now “I am a money magnet. I attract money effortlessly, I have an amazing ability to make money.” Then “All the good men are already taken” to “I constantly meet good men! Every man I date is my ideal man!” Create them as if they are in the now. You are living them, you are breathing them. Speak you affirmations out loud & speak you affirmations out proud.

PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE
