Why I Love My Mornings - Creating Intentionality, Purpose, and Making Time Work for Me

Mornings hold a special magic for me. They are a time to set the tone for the rest of the day, infuse purpose into my actions, and ensure that every moment counts. In this blog post, I’ll share my strategies for making mornings work for me, the fascinating connection between hormones and productivity, and show you how the 5 Habit Challenge can help you. Creating Intentionality in the Morning

One of the most powerful aspects of my mornings is starting with clear intentions.


Setting Priorities

Each morning, I take a few minutes to identify my top priorities for the day. This helps me stay focused and aligned with my larger goals. By listing out what needs to be accomplished, I can approach the day with a clear plan and purpose, minimising the chances of getting side-tracked by less important tasks.


Mindfulness Rituals

Incorporating rituals like meditation, journaling, or a quiet cup of tea helps centre your mind and prepare for the day ahead. For me it's my class, a walk and a coffee. My class is for my body and my walk is for my head. This routine is so important to my day as it allows me to feel like I achieved something before the day begins. I can commence my day from a place of calm, clarity & purpose.


Daily Reflection

I reflect on my long-term goals and how today’s tasks can bring me closer to them. This practice connects me with my deeper purpose and keeps me motivated. Reflecting on my progress and adjusting my plans accordingly ensures that I am continuously moving in the right direction. Reminding me of my 'why' and helping me bring a sense of purpose to my day, fuelling my passion and commitment.


Integrating Goals

I look at my long-term objectives and find ways to integrate small steps toward them into my daily routine. This makes even mundane tasks feel meaningful. For instance, if my long-term goal is to write a book, I might dedicate time each morning to write a few pages or brainstorm ideas.


Balanced Life

A purposeful morning routine sets a balanced tone for the entire day, ensuring I stay grounded and focused on what truly matters. Balancing work, personal growth, and self-care in the morning helps me maintain overall well-being.


Making Time Work for You

Time is our most precious resource, and how we use it can make all the difference. Having my walk and class done by 7.45 means that is two boxes ticked. Once I move into work mode I plan my mornings to include high-priority tasks when my energy and focus are at their peak. For me, this does not mean tackling my most challenging or creative work first. Once I have taken my ADHD meds, I will do a few easy, tick the box tasks first. Then I will kick into high priority, when I am most alert and productive. The key is doing what is right for you which means experimenting.

I also stay away from distractions and time-wasting activities, keeping my morning routine tight and efficient. This might involve setting boundaries with technology, such as limiting social media use or turning off unnecessary notifications.


Flexibility in a Morning Schedule

Creating a flexible yet structured schedule helps me maintain a flow that boosts productivity and reduces stress. Having a routine that includes time for both work and relaxation ensures that I start the day on the right foot.

Our bodies are intricate systems influenced by various hormones that affect our energy levels, mood, and creativity. Aligning your morning activities with their natural peaks can optimise your alertness and efficiency.

Understanding your menstrual can also help. Realising that your body is not built to go every single morning is a good thing. During your follicular phase you may be on fire from all aspects of your routine, high energy, high productivity. While your luteal phase may see you slow down and move to less intense movement and maybe focus on the creative side of your business. CEO days are great during your luteal phase.

By recognising when your energy and creativity are at their highest, you can schedule your most demanding tasks during these periods. This might mean dedicating early mornings to complex problem-solving or creative brainstorming sessions.

Simple strategies like a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep can help manage hormonal fluctuations and maintain consistent energy levels. Paying attention to these aspects of your health can prevent dips in productivity and mood.
